James Scott Pioneer
Sometime in the early 1970's a professional researcher traversed Virginia and West Virginia for the explicit purpose of finding genealogical information about James Scott. He interviewed my grandfather and great Aunt Faye Scott. Both Faye and my grandfather said that the man was from Washington DC and worked for William L. Scott, who was elected to serve as the representative from Virginia's 8th Congressional District from 1967 to 1973. The both recalled William Lloyd as a child.
In 1972 he ran for a US Senate seat from Virginia and won. He served one term as a Senator for Virginia. I long assumed the researcher was a member of either the Congressional or Senatorial staff. In 2023 I reached out to William L. Scott Jr, whom I found on Facebook and thinks the staff member was a gentleman named Don Roberts.
Without the benefit of the internet, Mr. Roberts compiled and impressive list of documents from the court records of Virginia, Monroe and Greenbrier Counties. He promised to share his summary and information with the family members who he had interviewed and true to his word, copies were made and sent to my Aunt Faye who passed them on to my grandparents. Before they passed away, the gave them to me. Mr .Robert's Narrative is posted in the images below.
